December 1, 2025
While the days in the Northeast are growing shorter and darker, our light continues to shine on our community and on each other.  Snowfall has given us an early peak at what’s to come and for many, winter recreation is an important part of their life here in the Mad River Valley. Me, not so much. I appreciate the winter less for the outdoor recreation and more for the opportunity to “nest”, to take on long-neglected indoor projects, to learn a new skill (I am committed to making a “barn quilt”), experiment with new recipes (less meat, more veggies/tofu), to nap, to knit.  I also plan to take the winter to work on tightening up some club administrative tasks and files. It may not sound fun for you, but it’s a “thing” for me. You go put in your runs on the mountain, I got this...
November saw our return to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta with an enthusiastic crew led by Dave Koepele where more than a dozen club members erected the skating rink to be used by campers and families of those facing cancer. We will return in the spring to dismantle it.
We honored Tom Emory for his exemplary dedication to our club. It’s not much, but saying “thank you” can go a long ways. I think he will agree.
Our exchange student, Emil is winding down his stay with his first host family and will be moving on in a couple weeks to his second host family, who at this point is Karl and me. He seems very happy here in the Valley. Now that he has settled in, I hope to include him more fully in club activities as time and schedule allow. He is active in school sports and will be on the Nordic team at Harwood this year.
Be sure to read the monthly newsletter for more news for the month!  Here’s our shout out to Mike C. and Mike B. – love you guys – and you are never far from our hearts or our thoughts.
Stay safe and warm.

All my best,
Susan
