Meet Al Barillaro!
I was born and raised in Meriden Ct.
In my first year of marriage to my lovely bride, Ellen, we did a ski week at Killington.
During our second year of marriage we did a ski week here at Sugarbush.
We never considered a return to Killington, however, we totally fell in love with Sugarbush and the “Valley”. We made sugarbush our favorite place for weekend trips and a lot of holidays.
Our first property in the Valley was a condo at The Bridges which we purchased in 1975.
Most Fridays we would make the trip up Interstate 91 & Interstate 89 to spend the weekend in the Valley.
In Connecticut prior to moving permanently to the Valley in 2000, we owned a Collision Repair Shop and an Auto Parts Store along with a Towing Business and Used Cars.
I started a Lawn Care Service after moving to Vermont.
We have two children. Julie who lives in Marlborough Ma with husband David and their two boys Luca and Nico.
A.J. who lives in Somerville Ma with his wife Sarah and their two daughters Alice and Lucy.
We spend a lot of time visiting the “Kids” in Massachusetts whether it’s a simple visit or a weekend full of time with the World’s Greatest Grandkids as they engage in their sports.
My winters are devoted to skiing. I skied 73 days last year. That includes a trip to Mt Tremblant and also some time at Okemo and Stowe.
During the Summer you’ll find me doing all the house maintenance and repair projects that a Vermont home requires in addition to yard work and playing on my back hoe. Of course on weekends you will find me erecting the Farmers Market tent on Saturday mornings. When weather and time permits, I enjoy a relaxing bike ride (flat - not mountain). I enjoy the Burlington path that cuts through the lake and Stowe Bike path with the brewery on it. Also Montpelier path is nice for a quickie.
I’ve been in Rotary for almost 50 years between the Meriden Club and the Valley Club. I’ve been president of both clubs.
The Meriden Club made me a Paul Harris Fellow with the club donating the money for the award. I was also honored Rotarian of the Year by the Meriden Club.
Being a Rotarian has awarded me the opportunity to give back and make a difference.
I so much enjoy working at Camp Tacumta. If anyone deserves our club’s help it’s the young people afflicted with cancer.
Being a Rotarian has offered me friendships that will last a lifetime.
