Bottles and Cans

Driving to Barre with counted and bagged Bottles & Cans collected at the Waitsfield United Church shed  - ongoing service project

Vehicle Requirement:
Volunteers must have a car no smaller than a Ford Escape or Subaru Outback and has seats that fold down for full access to the hatch area. Bags will also be placed on your front seat and floor. Bags are clean and dry.  A pickup truck with a tall cap (not a flat/Tonneau cover) will work as well.

Time Required: 2 Hours
They need to show up not later than 7am for loading up and 7:15am sharp departure. That is required because the bottle redemption in Barre opens specifically for the bottles for 8am arrival on Mondays.  Once you arrive at the Barre redemption center, they will unload your vehicle and you are free to go. You will not need to depart your vehicle at any point. (Without stopping for goodies at Red Hen, you should be back in the Valley before 9am.)

If, during winter, you are not confident you can "guarantee" a 7am Monday arrival, you could be an "on call" driver in the event someone has to cancel - then you can decide by looking at the weather forecast. They sometimes need an occasional Wednesday driver and could call you. When the weather turns nice again, you could sign up on a regular rotation if you like.

If you Must Cancel After Signing Up:
Please try to swap dates with another Rotarian. They are counting on your being there. It could be as simple as looking at the sign up list and see who you may be able to swap dates with. Otherwise, please contact Dorothy ASAP so she has time to find another volunteer. Hopefully this will be an infrequent occurrence.

How to Sign Up:
The Signup Sheet is on our Rotary Website, www.mrvrotary.org,  accessible by clicking “Members Only”(alsopasted here for your convenience) There, you will also find info on Food Shelf Delivery opportunities. Please sign up well in advance of your desired date, such as no later than the Friday before.

Thank you!
