Happy JULY all! Have you ever woke up and realized that an entire month had slipped through your hands? Wasn't yesterday just Memorial Day??!! And didn't I just write the June Newsletter??!! How did we get to July 4 so soon? Well lots has certainly been going on with MRV Rotary so let's get to it!

Scholarship News
It was our pleasure to welcome Rotary Scholarship recipients to the recent breakfast meeting. This year, MRV Rotary granted 3 students academic scholarships of $5,000 each and one tech/trades scholarship. Many thanks to Dara Torre who led the scholarship review team of Carol Hosford, Jane Macan, Karen Winchell and Al Barillaro.

Our new Publicity Campaign, "THIS IS MRV ROTARY", launched with the leadership of Kira Bacon, and is off to a wonderful start! For those of you who use social media, Instagram or Facebook, I suggest you be sure to follow MRV Rotary, and "like" it. Each week will highlight Rotarians or beneficiaries of Rotary grants doing what they love to do. Besides our time spent on Rotary, believe it or not, we all do have other lives. 😄 Be sure to follow this Campaign!

Volunteer opportunities
The annual Warren 4th of July Parade is almost here! Thank you to all who have given enormous amounts of time to get the parade ready. From selling specially designed T-shirts or Buddy Badges or hot dogs, to installing signage and more, a great big THANK YOU TO ALL!
Dr. Mike Leichliter reports that we continue to need one more host family for our exchange student from Sweden. If you can help with this, please reach out to him.
NEXT, the annual DUCK RACE IS COMING UP and NEEDS YOU! You have probably received email notice from our Queen Duck, Kim Olds, regarding the Labor Day weekend big quacking deal, Duck Race, our biggest source of grant funds. You can volunteer and sign up to sell ducks at either the Farmer's Market or Mehuron's by clicking the link below.
In addition to selling Ducks, you can always sign up to help with Community Pantry deliveries, thank you Doug Stoehr, or if you would like to be a Greeter, click on the following link https://mrvrotary.org/1451/Page/Show?ClassCode=Page&Slug=members-only. Being a greeter is a fabulous way to say hello to folks you have not seen in a while and if you are new to MRV Rotary, a wonderful way to get acquainted. So many ways to get involved!
I grew up in the small town of Farmington, Maine. Most of the time I was outdoors: ski racing in the winter and spending part of most summers at Scout camp, where I trained as a Junior Maine Guide and eventually taught swimming and canoeing.
After graduating from Wellesley College, I went to Yale University where I met my husband-to-be, Charlie. He was studying architecture at Yale. We spent four years in New Haven; I taught English at North Haven High School after earning my MAT. Charlie graduated first in his architectural class. We were drawn to Vermont by the group of recent Yale graduates who had settled here.
"Meet your Fellow Rotarian", Carol Hosford, has been a force in the MRV for quite some time! Read all about Carol in the story above.
In exchange for his amazing service to MRV Rotary for the past year, Susan Klein, new President, presented outgoing President, Mike Curtin with his very own beautiful wall sign for his sugaring business. Now he might have more time to make syrup! We all await, Mike!
Dara Torre with academic scholarship recipients. From left to right, Crow Fitzpatrick of Warren studying art at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly MA, Cailin Brooks of Duxbury attending UVM and studying nursing, Eleanor Hume of Granville attending George Washington U. to study international business. Missing from photo is recipient Tessa Jernigan of Waitsfield headed to U of Calif. San Diego to study marine biology.
Dara Torre with trades scholarship recipient, Caleb Durant, HUUSD and CVCC graduate. Caleb has been offered a full time job with NewSchool Builders for his co-operative Education placement for this year. I know that a few of us are really looking forward to hearing more from Caleb about his Trades experience at CVCC!
Thank you again for each and every effort you all make. A recent email I received from the Rotary District shared these words from the new RI President as he wrapped up the recent convention in Calgary, "Together, we can unite. We can unite to change lives, including our own. We can unite to change communities, right around the corner and half a world away. We can unite to change our world for the better, not just for us but for generations to come. Together, we UNITE FOR GOOD".
I like those words, as they remind me of all the good we can do together, particularly in our divided world today.
As I preview these newsletters before clicking SEND, the feeling that I am missing something overcomes me regularly. Please forgive me for any errors or omissions and don't be shy about sharing what I might want to be including as the first of each month approaches.
