Good Morning MRV Rotarians, friends, community members and supporters. I hope you are enjoying these beautiful summer days however you wish, doing whatever feeds your soul and body. Maple Creemee anyone?? August will be here before you know it as will the Labor Day Weekend DUCK RACE, so my advice is to take it all in!
MRV Rotarians continue to be busy in a variety of ways thanks to all the support provided by our beloved Community. Read on for the details.
Grants Approved
MESA Medical Mission was granted $1,000 to cover the cost of transporting used medical equipment to needed locales around the world. This is an international grant and we aim to do one international grant a year.
Education Grants - Ed McDonough and Betsy Wilkinson received 12 proposals and we are happy to fund 7 of them to the total of $5,000 to HUUSD. Choices were based on those offering the widest impact and greatest need.
Thank you, Doug Stoehr and Shawn Sullivan for your time and commitment to work on grants.

Volunteer opportunities
NEXT, the annual DUCK RACE IS COMING UP and NEEDS YOU! You have probably received email notice from our Queen Duck, Kim Olds, regarding the Labor Day weekend big quacking deal, Duck Race, our biggest source of grant funds. You can volunteer and sign up to sell ducks at either the Farmer's Market or Mehuron's by clicking the link below.
The annual von Trapp Garden Days fundraiser has been quite successful to date this year! You can still sign up to help check visitors in as there are a few slots still available. See the link below.
In addition to selling Ducks, you can always sign up to help with Community Pantry deliveries, thank you Doug Stoehr, or if you would like to be a Greeter, click on the following link
Being a greeter is a fabulous way to say hello to folks you have not seen in a while and, if you are new to MRV Rotary, a wonderful way to get acquainted. So many ways to get involved!
To me, there is nothing better than summer in Vermont (sorry, winter-lovers!). August means gardens are in full bloom, we can work and play outside, (but for the deer flies!) and we have some great events in which to participate, including von Trapp Gardens Tours, Duck Race ticket sales at Mehuronâs Market and the Farmersâ Market, and picking up food to drop at the Community Pantry. Thank you to the members who make these things possible and for those who donate time to make them successful.
In my first year of marriage to my lovely bride, Ellen, we did a ski week at Killington.
During our second year of marriage we did a ski week here at Sugarbush.
We never considered a return to Killington, however, we totally fell in love with Sugarbush and the âValleyâ. We made sugarbush our favorite place for weekend trips and a lot of holidays.
It was nice to hear that you reached out to me. I'm in Alaska right now, working a construction internship for the summer so I've had a hard time responding to people. I wanted to let you know how valuable the scholarship I received last year was to me - it was the core of my funding for school last year.
"Meet your Fellow Rotarian", Al Barillaro, has been a well-loved contributor to so much of what makes this Valley special. Read all about Al in the story above.
Scholarship recipient, Nic Newman, working as a construction intern in Kodiak, Alaska.
Tempest Bookstore owner, Rick Rayfield, is a generous MRV Rotary supporter and here he is promoting our Duck Race with a fabulous poster outside of his store. Many thanks to Roger Porter for printing this poster and thank you Dave Koepele for framing it! I hear that Dave Mackie had a hand in it as well producing the QR code. Wow! Many hands make light work!

Well I suspect there is more that I am forgetting so please forgive me. Gotta get packing as we are off to Seattle to see our grandson for a few days. đ„°
