Hi Dara,
It was nice to hear that you reached out to me. I'm in Alaska right now, working a construction internship for the summer so I've had a hard time responding to people. I wanted to let you know how valuable the scholarship I received last year was to me - it was the core of my funding for school last year.
I've been doing great with engineering at Bucknell, I am still a planned environmental engineering major and am loving my classes. Bucknell has one of the highest ranked (I believe #4 or #5) civil and environmental engineering program in the country, which has allowed me to excel, and this last spring semester I ended with a 3.5 GPA, and have a 3.3 cumulative for the year. My high grades earned me a spot on the Dean's list this past semester as well. I fit right in at Bucknell and absolutely love the community, and have been doing lots of things including playing on the ultimate Frisbee team, joining the fishing club, getting into rock climbing, and playing on the club water polo team. I really enjoyed the recipient breakfast that MRV Rotary hosted last year, and left a big impact on me - especially with helping build the fence at Neck of the Woods and meeting a lot of the people who are a part of the MRV rotary. I mentioned in this email I'm in Alaska - I am doing an apprenticeship to a master carpenter. I think gaining some experience in the construction industry will aid my breadth of knowledge in engineering and give me a good perspective out in the actual job. I hope you're having a great summer!
Thanks,
Nic Newman
