Well, June certainly has been a glorious month in VT! I hope you all have been doing whatever brings you joy outside and bottling it up for those less than glorious days. 😉
Your MRV Rotary team has been busy finalizing plans for upcoming breakfast meetings. We will be having 2 breakfast meetings a month and one dinner. For July we begin breakfast meetings at Toast and Eggs at 7 a.m. Our July and August dinner meetings will be held at Lareau Farm in the Big Red Barn at 5 p.m. We owe many thanks to Jane Macan for these lovely arrangements - particularly since we are blessed with art shows running concurrent to our meetings. So come early and enjoy the art!
Upcoming is also the annual Changeover Dinner which will be held at General Starks Pub on Tuesday, June 28 at 5 p.m. You can read more about it below and be sure to reserve your space!
At the last regular breakfast meeting, Pete Colgan presented a clear, persuasive case for our support of Rotary Foundation. Thank you, Pete, as I can now say that I finally understand what the Foundation is and how it fits into the larger picture of Rotary International. You can read more about that presentation below as well as donate.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly is coming up on June 24, 25, 26 and we have Rosemarie White to thank for her work on getting a student from MRV Rotary area to attend.
The Duck Race is scheduled for Sunday of Labor Day weekend and we have Kim Olds to thank for taking the lead on this project. Read more below about how you can help with this important fund raiser.
Susan Klein has been doing yeoman's work getting the Warren 4th of July parade up and running and she could use a bit of help. As Susan says, "Some of the key tasks are on Sunday July 3, but there are some for the week prior, the day of, and the week after. Something for every schedule!
Please know that our club is given a donation of $5000 for producing this event, so I urge you to do what you can. Friends and family can also pitch in - there is plenty to do!"
Any empty sign up spots all get filled with Susan and Karl Klein - please don't let that happen.
It’s time for our Changeover dinner! We’re going to celebrate at General Stark’s Pub on June 28th from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
You’ll have a choice of three entrees at the buffet including, Chicken Provencal marinated and grilled served in a sauce of garlic, white wine, lemon, olives, fresh herbs, and tomatoes, Beef Brisket Slow cooked for 10 hours served with a Cider and caramelized onion reduction, or Roasted Potato and Mushroom Frittata made with Cabot Cheddar and fresh Rosemary and Thyme.
As I said during my presentation on the Rotary Foundation last week, the simplest way I summarize Rotary's global mission is this:
"World Peace"
A lofty, naive, unattainable goal? It's easy to dismiss it as such. But the work we endeavor to do as a club of Rotarians and the 1.2 million Rotarians across the globe is thousands of smallish projects inching toward that goal. Projects that honor human dignity. Projects that bring water and sanitation to villages where this is a huge step toward disease eradication. Projects that support women starting small businesses to generate the cash needed to buy the fuel that generates electricity to power the single household light so they can read at night. Projects that train teachers in communities where the literacy rate might be 12%. Projects that support the environment by shifting power generation from coal to hydropower. Projects that create preschools so parents can work. Projects, too, that lift spirits through support of artistic expression in its myriad forms.
We need your help! Would you please sign up here for a time slot to help sell duck race tickets.
WHAT IS THE DUCK RACE?
The Duck Race is an annual event taking place on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. We send small numbered rubber ducks down the river (for a short distance). The first 10 rubber ducks to cross the finish line win monetary prizes. Basically it's a raffle event but instead of buying a raffle ticket, you purchase a number of rubber ducks that float down the river. Come on....how fun is that!!!
The Duck Race is one of our primary fund raisers. For every ticket you help sell, you directly make an impact. How's that for motivating?!?!?
