Rotary Foundation 

As I said during my presentation on the Rotary Foundation last week, the simplest way I summarize Rotary's global mission is this:

 

"World Peace"

 

A lofty, naive, unattainable goal? It's easy to dismiss it as such. But the work we endeavor to do as a club of Rotarians and the 1.2 million Rotarians across the globe is thousands of smallish projects inching toward that goal. Projects that honor human dignity. Projects that bring water and sanitation to villages where this is a huge step toward disease eradication. Projects that support women starting small businesses to generate the cash needed to buy the fuel that generates electricity to power the single household light so they can read at night. Projects that train teachers in communities where the literacy rate might be 12%. Projects that support the environment by shifting power generation from coal to hydropower. Projects that create preschools so parents can work. Projects, too, that lift spirits through support of artistic expression in its myriad forms.

 

We're halfway to our club's goal of raising $4,000 for the RI Foundation. My ask of you is not to donate hundreds of dollars. My ask is that you donate something. $10 would be great. Donating is a way to show your connection to something bigger than yourself, bigger than our club and the Valley we call home. Hopefully, Rotary's mission is something that you believe is worthy of your support.
