Good Morning and Happy New Year! And it is a gorgeous, clear one here in my Happy Valley (probably yours too). 😉 This month's newsletter is coming to you from my temporary home with a spectacular view of not only all 3 Valley ski areas but also Camel's Hump and Mt. Mansfield. A bit distracting but given all the grey days we have had, I feel like soaking it all in is good for the soul.
At the Rotary meeting this week member, Tom Byrne, co-owner of Valley business, Better Travel, provided a brief update on the travel business post covid. In addition and perhaps more important, Tom shared a bit about his own life's journey and the entertaining, circuitous route that led him to the Mad River Valley. Many thanks, Tom!
Also at the meeting this morning, RoseMarie White provided an update on her work with the Interact Club at Harwood Union High School. So many thanks for all of the work you do, RoseMarie! You can read all about how you can help the Interact Club below in Stories.
Tom Emory reported that income from the Restaurant Raffle ticket sales is a bit short of our $15,000 goal. To date we have sold about $12,000 worth of tickets. We have about 10 days to reach out goal. We are relying on members using the Rallyup application to build sales by sending invitations to buy tickets on line.
At a recent Rotary meeting, Valerie McCord, of Free Wheelin' was our speaker. Valerie thanked Rotary for all the support we have offered both in the form of grants as well as drivers. Rotarians who volunteer with Free Wheelin' are: Doug Stoehr, Sally Dwyer and Peter Colgan. Many thanks for your help! In addition, Janet Ellison and Wendy McDonough are unofficial Rotarians also driving. For those of you interested in further data, check out the info in Stories, below.
This coming week our Zoom meeting speaker will be Moie Moulton, Exec. Director of Neck of the Woods Childcare Center (NOW). Many Rotarians have been generous with their time on numerous projects for NOW. In addition, over the past 3 years, MRV Rotary has supported NOW's efforts with over $20,000 in grant funds. You can click on this link https://www.valleyreporter.com/index.php/news/schools/17597-milestone-year-for-neck-of-the-woods and read the recent article in the Valley Reporter describing the progress NOW made in 2022 towards providing quality childcare in the Valley. Also the link to the Zoom meeting on Wednesday at 5 p.m. is on our Rotary Web site.
