Good Morning MRV Rotarians, friends, community members and supporters. As I write, my view is the lovely frosted peaks of Mt. Ellen and Mad River. The brisk winds from the north are alerting me to the upcoming season and in the back of my mind are the soon-to-be-here holidays. But before those days arrive, I hope that you can take a few moments to savor the quiet calm of the Valley.
At the recent breakfast meeting Susan Klein honored Rotarian, Kim Olds, for the Service Above Self award. Susan read the following: "This person beautifully exhibits the Service Above Self motto. Their quiet but determined leadership style endears all of us who have the honor and pleasure of working with them. They trust in us, they believe in us and cheer us onward. More importantly, they believe in themselves, which in turn makes all things possible." Congratulations, Kim!

Being a greeter is a fabulous way to say hello to folks you have not seen in a while and, if you are new to MRV Rotary, a wonderful way to get acquainted.
As we head toward the darker days of the early winter season, we are grateful for the recent rains that have refilled our ponds, our wells, and our rivers. The colder weather brings a promise of snow-filled slopes and trails. While we wait out “stick season”, our thoughts turn toward our next projects, including setting up the ice rink at Camp Tak-um-ta in Grand Isle. Dave Koepel and his merry band set up the rink in November and take it down in April. This rink is used by campers and families who utilize the camp. For those not familiar with the work of Camp Tak-um-ta, I encourage you to learn more about it HERE. It’s a camp for kids with cancer and their families to enjoy a safe and welcoming respite in summer and winter – at no cost. Last year we built dozens of storage cubbies for the cabins and we appreciate the opportunities for service work there.
I share with you this calming photo of Villandry Chateau and Gardens in the Loire Valley, France. Next month, back to collecting Valley Rotary photos.
By the way, did you know that the Apple is the Vermont State Pie? Who knew that we had a State Pie?! And to accompany that tidbit of trivia.....this poem
"Apple Pie without cheese, is like a hug without a squeeze."
