Good Morning all! After this week's morning meeting, it was clear to me that once again we have so0000 much going on that a once a month newsletter is just not enough.
So here is your MRV ROTARY NEWS IN BRIEF!
What's Been Going On:
Well the von Trapp Garden tours are over for the season. Thanks to Sally and Toby von Trapp, we have added over $8,000 to our sponsorship totals that will be turned into grants. Thank you, Jane Macan, for leading this effort.
The Duck Race was enormously successful thanks to the leadership of Kim Olds and her hard working team. A record of almost $24,000 was made and added to our charitable giving funds.
Outpour '24 - a joint event with Sugarbush and Lawson's Finest Liquids - was not only a fun day of music and food and games, but more importantly a successful fund raiser for Vermont Flood Response and Recovery Fund. Thanks to Betsy Wilkerson for taking a lead on this and thanks to the many Rotarians who helped with day-of activities. Every bit of your effort is gratefully appreciated!
You might have seen the notice in both the Valley Reporter as well as FPF regarding our successful fund raising efforts. The Rotary Board is working hard to spread the word about the availability of our grant process. Please know that we are making every effort to fulfill our charter to return funds generously donated back to the Community.
In addition, just yesterday in a community effort some Rotarians helped Skatium folks demo the old facility to make way for what will be a longer-term-planned new skating facility for the Valley. Stay tuned to learn more about that.
New Members:
Welcome to new members Charles (Charlie) Kahle) and Alexandra Harvey. Be sure to say hi and introduce yourself.
Volunteer Opportunities:
If you were at the recent morning meeting, you probably heard President, Mike Curtin, mention that we are making a concerted effort to engage more members in our efforts and committees. We have in the past had a good handful of committees of one. 🤔 Please know that your input is important. All members have a chance to make a difference. Reach out to Mike to learn more about where you might be able to help. I promise you, he doesn't bite. 😉
Maybe you would like to help Emily Shea with the upcoming Restaurant Raffle fundraiser. She is just getting that going and is looking for helpers. You probably saw her recent email but maybe it was just one of those days when you were overwhelmed, too many emails and couldn't process it all. I get it! I have those too! Just go ahead and reach out to her. She would love to hear from you.
Save the date for Saturday, November 16, for the annual Rise Against Hunger Food packaging event. Thanks to Pete Colgan for leading this event. If you have not helped with this yet, sign up when you get the sign up sheet. It's great fun and the music is fabulous!
As I walked past the overflowing community pantry donations box at Mehuron's yesterday, I remembered that there is always a need for delivery helpers to collect goods from Mehuron's and Shaws. If you have time to help with the
Community Pantry deliveries, click this link
https://www.mrvrotary.org/page/members-only and you can sign up.
Thank you, Doug Stoehr for managing this.
In addition, everyone can be a Greeter by clicking on the same link. No experience necessary. All that is needed is a smiling face.
Upcoming Rotary meetings:
9/19. 5 p.m. Thursday dinner meeting at DECO Restaurant
9/25 5 p.m. Barbecue to celebrate end of Summer. No meeting. Open to Community with RSVP.
