MRV Rotary Prevailing through a pandemic year
It was almost a year ago when Covid-19 stormed into our world, leaving us shaken, unsettled and uncertain. The ski resorts faced an early season shut down, restaurants closed, and inns became inaccessible. Many of us felt confused, in the dark, not sure what to think. So much has transpired in a year, so much has changed, so many of us hurt. Pushing the Proteins!
In April, 2020, in response to the covid pandemic, the MRV Rotary applied to the Rotary District in New Hampshire for a matching grant of $2400.  The grant was entitled “Push the Proteins,” and was designed to assist the local food shelf (now the Community Pantry) in paying for expensive, protein-rich foods.  Protein deficiency is a risk for food-insecure households and can especially affect senior citizens.  The grant was awarded.  With matching funds from the local MRV Rotary, $4800 is being made available, in monthly installments, to the Community Pantry for any form of protein-rich foods through mid-2021.

Bottles and Cans project

Bottles and Cans

Driving to Barre with counted and bagged Bottles & Cans collected at the Waitsfield United Church shed  - ongoing service project

Vehicle Requirement:
Volunteers must have a car no smaller than a Ford Escape or Subaru Outback and has seats that fold down for full access to the hatch area. Bags will also be placed on your front seat and floor. Bags are clean and dry.  A pickup truck with a tall cap (not a flat/Tonneau cover) will work as well.

Time Required: 2 Hours
They need to show up not later than 7am for loading up and 7:15am sharp departure. That is required because the bottle redemption in Barre opens specifically for the bottles for 8am arrival on Mondays.  Once you arrive at the Barre redemption center, they will unload your vehicle and you are free to go. You will not need to depart your vehicle at any point. (Without stopping for goodies at Red Hen, you should be back in the Valley before 9am.)
