Good morning. Since the last MRV Rotary newsletter arrived in your email, average temps have warmed a bit, Sugarbush has run the last lift for the season and a couple of Valley restaurants are taking short, well-deserved mud season breaks. In addition, a few of our snow bird members have returned north (glad you all are back) and the trilliums have begun to show their stunning colors in the woods. Despite seasonal changes, Rotarians continue to do the good work.
Your MRV Rotary team is close to finalizing plans for in-person breakfast meetings. We will be having 2 breakfast meetings a month and one dinner. June will be a trial month with the June 9 meeting held at the Mad River Barn at 7 a.m. and the June 26 meeting at Toast and Eggs same time. We plan to continue with the Zoom option for now thanks to technology. Stay tuned for more specific details to come.
Upcoming in the short term is also the annual Changeover Dinner which will probably happen in the late June/early July time frame - venue tbd.
On a totally different topic, please welcome New Rotary Member, Erik Russell, when you see him. Erik works at Cabot and lives in Fayston with his wife and young son. At an upcoming meeting you will have a chance to learn more about Erik when he does his introductory speech.
A big shout-out to Bill Barnes for his good work of organizing a crew of students from Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) to help clean up a storage room at Neck of the Woods. Bill worked along with Sam Jackson from GMVS and a handful of cheerful Rotarians on Sunday, April 25 for a few hours. Many thanks to the following People of Action: Pete Colgan, Wayne Foster and Roger Porter.
Speaking of GMVS, there has been discussion of setting up an Interact Club at the school and needs a few more volunteers. You can read more about that below.
There has been interest in establishing an Interact club at GMVS.
What Is Interact?
Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18. If we are interested in doing this, the first thing we have to do is establish an Interact subcommittee (of the community service committee) of at least five members. The demands on this subcommittee should not be too onerous, but it does have to produce a product, so a strong commitment is necessary. If you like the idea of working with young people, this could be for you.
