MRV Rotary Newsletter
December, 2024
Hello Rotarians and hello Holiday season!  As I write today, holiday music is my background noise and  sparkling lights of the recently decorated Christmas tree provide ambient lighting. The season is not only upon us but we are also looking at regular ski mornings and other snow fun very soon. We all know snow will be covering more of the slopes soon so get ready!

Our annual holiday gathering was held just this past week and despite the rainy weather, was well attended. We missed those who were away or otherwise committed as this season is quite compacted with concerts and other events.  Thank you again to Emily Shea for sharing her lovely Afterthoughts space with us and thank you to Malcolm Piper, Toast and Eggs, for catering.

Next Wednesday, December 18, it is time once again for Board Officer Slate Voting. A slate of proposed Board members has been sent out to all members and voting will happen at this upcoming breakfast meeting so please try and attend.

Upcoming Rotary meetings:

12/18, 7 a.m., Wednesday breakfast meeting at the Village Meeting House at the Waitsfield UCC.

1/8, 7 a.m., Wednesday breakfast meeting at the Village Meeting House at the Waitsfield UCC.

1/22,  7 a.m., Wednesday, breakfast meeting at the Village Meeting House at the Waitsfield UCC.

Grants Approved

At the recent Board meeting, members voted to approve a grant for $1,000 for the MRV Chamber of Commerce to help fund a compostable toilet/bathroom behind the Chamber office.

Mad River Valley Ambulance will receive $5,000 for the purchase of an electric Nomad Snowmobile for rescue operations in the backcountry.

Thank you, Roger Porter, for your work on these grants. You have a very important role and we appreciate all you do!

Volunteer opportunities

The Restaurant Raffle sales are in full swing. Thank you to all who have either collected gift cards from restaurants and/or those who have signed up to sell tickets. We are well on our way to raising $12,000 but still need your help. You can help to make this fund raiser a success by signing up to sell tickets at Mehurons. Click the link below. Take it from me, it really is a fun time!  https://mrvrotary.org/1451/Page/Show?ClassCode=Page&Slug=members-only

In addition on the same link, you can sign up to help with Community Pantry deliveries, thank you Doug Stoehr, and if you would like to be a Greeter, use that same link.  Being a greeter is a fabulous way to say hello to folks you have not seen in a while and if you are new to MRV Rotary, a wonderful way to get acquainted. So many ways to get involved!

Beth Wallace, Executive Director of Everybody Wins, VT, presented at a recent morning meeting. In Everybody Wins sites around VT, adult volunteers read with students and make lasting connections. Waitsfield Elementary School is an EverybodyWins site.

Dave Ellison recently presented Roger Porter with a Paul Harris Fellow pin for Roger to add to his collection. Congratulations, Roger!

As I reflect on all that we as a Community have accomplished over the course of the year, I feel truly blessed to be a part of MRV Rotary.  Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and I hope to see many of you on Wednesday morning at our regular breakfast meeting.
