MRV Rotary Newsletter
August, 2022
Good morning, Rotarians!  I hope you are sleeping as well as I am these days. The delightfully cool evenings and comfortable days of August are quite welcome in my book!  But if you have not sent your letter to friends and family inviting them to purchase Duck Race tickets,  I suggest you get on it! 🙂 No better time than the present as we are slowly closing in on the BIG event to be held on September 4 at 3 p.m. Kim Olds, Karl Klein, Rob Perry and a few others are managing this important fund raiser and they would be quite grateful!  (please thank them when you see them) Find out more below.

Have you stopped by the von Trapp display gardens for a tour?  With the generosity of Sally and Tobie von Trapp, Jane Macan has organized what has turned out to be a wonderful series of weekend fund raising events for Rotary. A great big thank you to all of the volunteers including Sally Dwyer and Karen Winchell and everyone else who has taken a shift at the entry table or helped in other ways. You can read more below.

Rosemarie White received a lovely letter of thanks from the Harwood student we sent to Rotary Youth Leadership conference. If it does not make you proud, I would be very surprised. Read it below and thank Rosemarie for her work when you see her.

But wait! There's more good work that fellow Rotarians are involved in!
This past beautiful weekend Al Barillaro managed what I hear was a very successful and fun 75th Anniversary celebration of the Warren Volunteer Fire Department. You can see a few photos below of the fun event!  Thank you all who gave of their time to make it a success!

Please note that our meeting schedule in September varies a bit from the typical. First Breakfast meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Toast and Eggs. Dinner meeting is Thursday, Sept. 15 at Lareau Farm and Second breakfast meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Toast and Eggs.  Mark your calendars or check out our Calendar on the web site home page.

And speaking of meetings, being a Greeter at a meeting is a great way to chat it up with potential new members or those you have not seen in a while. You can sign up to be a Greeter on the Members page of our web site. Go on. You know you want to!

Thank you from RYLA student
Dear Mad River Valley Rotary Club,

I would like to start this letter off thanking you all for choosing me to go to RYLA. I can feel your support and it is just amazing. Thank you so much. I also realize that many of you don’t know me quite yet, so I'll take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Ella Scharf. I am 16 years old and live in Waterbury. I heard about RYLA in the TA announcements at Harwood and I was immediately interested. I believe that it was the same day that I reached out to Rosemarie to apply. A HUGE thank you, Rosemarie. You were so helpful and supportive and I’m so glad that we finally got to meet in person. I was taking a class in school at the time that was focusing on leadership skills and I really felt a strong connection to it and wanted to learn more. The announcement about RYLA couldn’t have had better timing.
